2021 Releases

This article lists the breaking or important changes in the 2021 releases of Kendo UI.

Kendo UI 2021 R3 SP 1

ColorPicker

As of the end of 2021, the ColorPicker has a new design. As a result, some new features were introduced. If you prefer the old design of the widget, refer to this section from our documentation.

MultiSelect

As of the 2021 R3 release the MultiSelect in virtualization scenario will no longer support Shift + Arrow key selection as it is described in the Keyboard navigation demo. That is because when going from one virtual page of MultiSelect items to another the items indexes are reused. As the range selection functionality relies on indexes, executing it via the Shift + Arrow combination may result in improper selection in the widget. That is why it has been disabled for virtualized MultiSelect widgets.

Kendo UI 2021 R2 SP1

TileLayout

The TileLayout container headers come with a new rendering. The TileLayout containers no longer render the header texts inside <h5> elements, but place them inside <div> elements.

Scheduler

As of the 2021 R2 release the events that are 24 hours or longer and do not have their isAllDay field set to true will be rendered in the regular (non all day) slots. In the previous versions such events were rendered in the allDaySlot. With the introduced change the allDaySlot will display only those events that have their isAllDay field set to true.

Grid

Changes appear in the Grid Toolbar which now utilizes the CSS flexbox concept. This change improves Grid Toolbar responsiveness and visualization on smaller screen sizes.

Reverting to the previous appearance is possible by:

  • setting the Search Panel as the last element in the toolbar:
toolbar: ["excel", "pdf", "search"],
  • utilizing the following styles:
    <style>
     .k-grid .k-grid-search {
            margin-left: auto;
            margin-right: 0;
        }
    </style>

Window

In previous versions, when setting the height option, the total height of the Window was equal to the specified value plus the title bar height. As of 2021 R1, the Window now sets the height by also taking into account the title bar height and including it in the calculation. Thus, if height is specified to 200 pixels, this means that the full Window height will be 200 pixels. This change improves the Window behavior and allows for correctly specifying the height of the Window in percentage.

This change will affect Window instances that have height specified explicitly (height will be reduced with the title bar height). Reverting to the previous state is possible by increasing the height accordingly:

$("#window").kendoWindow({
    height: "250px", // increase this value with the title bar height
});

Upload

Up until this version the Upload widget does not implement keyboard navigation logic. The main Upload input, its command buttons and all the buttons on each file element were part of the default tab sequence on the page. Therefore, they were accessible using the Tab key. In version 2021 R2 SP1 a dedicated keyboard navigation logic has been introduced making the widget and its main elements easier to navigate. The file elements and their buttons are accessible using the arrow keys, while the Upload widget buttons, outside of its file elements remain part of the tab sequence of the page. Detailed instructions on the introduced concepts could be found on the Upload Keyboard Navigation demo.
