Plan an Iteration
To start planning an iteration, in the ribbon menu choose Planning > Plan an Iteration:
Once you have scheduled your iterations you will need to fill them up with work. When you plan an iteration you take stories, bugs, issues, and risks from your backlog and add them to an iteration.
In a nutshell, you take the items you want to plan from the top panel (backlog) and move them into the bottom panel (the iteration you want to plan).
By default, the backlog is filtered to the items that have not been scheduled into an iteration. The top panel of this screen shows the backlog. You can change what the backlog contains by using the filters on the right. You can filter by area, iteration, status, tag, and item type.
Add Items to an Iteration
To plan items from your backlog into an iteration, select them in the top pane and click the Add to Iteration button. If you don't have permission to edit all the selected items, the button will be disabled.
Planning an Iteration
By default, the selected iteration will be the current iteration. You can change which iteration is selected by using the iteration selector drop down in the panel on the right.
On the right side there is a panel containing some details for the iteration that has been selected for planning. In the details you can view and (if you have permission) edit:
- Iteration name
- Capacity information (minimum, maximum)
- Start and end dates
Remove Items from an Iteration
To remove item from an iteration, select them in the bottom pane and click the Remove from Iteration button. If you don't have permission to edit all the selected items, the button will be disabled.
