How To: Create a Report (Standalone Report Designer)

This topic discusses how to create your first report with Standalone Report Designer


Your system must have the following installed to use this tutorial:

  • Microsoft SQL Server

  • AdventureWorks database. If you have a running local instance of MS SQL Server the AdventureWorks database is installed by the Telerik Reporting installation. Additionally the sample database can be found and manually installed from

  • Telerik Report Designer application. The application comes with the Telerik Reporting installation.

Create a new report definition.

  1. Select File | New | from the Telerik Report Designer File menu. Click on the Telerik Report template. Create file dialog opens.

  2. Give the new report definition a name and click Save. The Create file dialog closes and a new tab with the new report definition opens.

  3. The Report Wizards will appear automatically to help you select data and design your report quickly. For more information see How To: Use the Report Wizard to create a Band Report.
