Clicking Save No Longer LiveSyncs Changes Over Cable

This troubleshooting tutorial is intended for developers who need to run apps on device and are working in the classic Windows desktop client or the extension for Visual Studio. You will learn:

  • What might cause LiveSync to stop working
  • How to change the active build configuration
  • How to enable LiveSync for device

Problem

You have deployed your app on device and you have made some changes to your app. Clicking Save no longer synchronizes your changes on connected devices.

Cause

The following issues might cause LiveSync to stop working for connected devices.

  • You have modified the app properties
  • LiveSync is disabled for the device
  • Your active build configuration is set to Release
  • Connectivity issues

Solution

Reconnect device

Connectivity issues might cause LiveSync to stop working properly. Reconnect the device and verify that AppBuilder recognizes it.

Enable LiveSync

Verify that LiveSync is enabled for the device.

  1. Run AppBuilder and open the code for your app.
  2. Connect a device.
  3. Open the Devices pane and verify that your device appears in the list of connected devices.
  4. Review and enable the LiveSync settings for the device.
    • If you are running your app in the Cordova developer app, enable Companion app LiveSync.
    • If you are not running your app in the Cordova developer app, enable Project LiveSync.

(Optional) If you have not disabled Project LiveSync manually, review the logs for related error messages. If the listed suggested solutions do not solve your problem, submit a support request and add the error messages to it.

Set the active build configuration

If your build configuration is set to Release, AppBuilder strips the LiveSync functionality from your app. To be able to synchronize your changes, you need to set the active build configuration to Debug.

  1. Run AppBuilder and open the code for your app.
  2. Run the Build wizard.
  3. Select target platform and build target.
  4. Set the build configuration to Debug.
  5. Re-build your app.
  6. Re-deploy your app.

Re-deploy your app

If you have modified the app properties, re-deploy your app. LiveSync does not support synchronization for app properties.
