Configure Autocompletion and Typing Assistance

Select the Progress AppBuilder client you are currently using for development.

IDE

For HTML markup, AppBuilder inserts closing tags as you type. You can enable and disable typing assistance for HTML. By default, typing assistance is enabled.

In the classic Windows desktop client, you can also configure the default hotkey for expanding code snippets and Emmet abbreviations.

In the in-browser client, you can set AppBuilder to show autocompletion suggestions for JavaScript as you type or when you press Ctrl+Space.

In the command-line interface, you can configure the command-line completion settings for bash and zsh shells.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.
  • Verify that you have opened the code for your app in AppBuilder.

Procedure

In-Browser

  1. Click the cogwheel icon and select Options.
  2. In the sidebar, click Code Editor.
  3. Select or deselect the Auto list members check box.
    • When Auto list members is selected, the in-browser client automatically shows autocompletion suggestions as you type.
    • When Auto list members is deselected, the in-browser client shows autocompletion suggestions on Ctrl+Space.

Universal

  1. Click the cogwheel icon and select Options.
  2. In the sidebar, click Code Editor.
  3. Select or deselect the Auto list members check box.
    • When Auto list members is selected, the in-browser client automatically shows autocompletion suggestions as you type.
    • When Auto list members is deselected, the in-browser client shows autocompletion suggestions on Ctrl+Space.

Windows

Autocompletion and typing assistance settings in the classic Windows desktop client are global.

  1. In the title bar, click your user name and select Options.
  2. In the General tab, select Code Completion and select the Auto list members check box.
  3. In the General tab, select Text EditorHTMLTyping Assistance.
    • To disable typing assistance, deselect the Auto insert closing tag check box.
    • To enable typing assistance, select the Auto insert closing tag check box.
  4. In the General tab, select Text EditorCode Snippets.
    • To disable expanding code snippets and Emmet abbreviations by pressing Tab, deselect the Expand snippets on Tab check box.
      You can still expand snippets and abbreviations by pressing Ctrl+E.
    • To enable expanding code snippets and Emmet abbreviations by pressing Tab, select the Expand snippets on Tab check box.
  5. Click Ok.

Visual Studio

To perform this operation, apply your preferred Microsoft Visual Studio approach, extension or tool or install and use the Telerik JustCode extension. For more information, see the Telerik JustCode Manual.

CLI

In the command-line interface, you can configure the command-line completion settings for bash and zsh shells.

  1. In the command prompt, run the following command.

    appbuilder autocomplete status
    

    The command-line interface prints your current command-line completion settings.

  2. To enable command-line completion, if disabled, run the following command.

    appbuilder autocomplete enable
    
  3. To Disable command-line completion, if enabled, run the following command.

    appbuilder autocomplete disable
    
  4. Restart the console for your configuration change to take effect.
