Launch an App on Connected Devices

To ease the automation of development and testing or to speed up testing and debugging, you can quickly launch an installed app on a connected device from the command line.

In this version of the command-line interface, you can launch apps only on iOS and Android devices. You can launch apps on connected physical iOS devices and connected physical or virtual Android devices.

Prerequisites

AppBuilder Prerequisites

  • Verify that your operating system is Windows or macOS.
  • Verify that you are running the command-line interface and you are logged in the Telerik Platform.

Android Prerequisites

  • Verify that your system and the device are configured to work with AppBuilder.
    For more information, see Connect Android Device.
  • Verify that the app is installed on the device.
  • Verify that you have built the app with the Debug build configuration.

iOS Prerequisites

  • Verify that your operating system is macOS.
  • Verify that you have installed Xcode 5.0 or later on your system.
  • Verify that the app is installed on the device.
  • Verify that you have built the app with the Debug build configuration.

Procedure

  1. Connect your devices to your system via USB cable.
  2. In the command prompt, navigate to the directory that contains your app.
  3. Run the following command to verify that the command-line interface recognizes your connected devices.

    appbuilder device
    
  4. (Optional) Run the following command to list the installed applications on all connected devices.

    appbuilder device list-applications
    
  5. (Optional) To list the applications installed on a selected device, run the following command.

    appbuilder device list-applications --device <Device ID>
    

    <Device ID> is the device name or identifier as listed in Step 3.

  6. Run the following command to launch a selected app.

    appbuilder device run <Application ID> 
    

    <Application ID> is the application identifier as listed in Step 4 or 5.

    If you have connected multiple devices, set a device on which you want to launch the app.

    appbuilder device run <Application ID> --device <Device ID>
    

    <Device ID> is the device name or identifier as listed in Step 3.
    <Application ID> is the application identifier as listed in Step 4 or 5.
