Enable Backend Services in Your App

Select the Progress AppBuilder client you are currently using for development.

IDE

To integrate the Data, Users, Notifications or Business Logic services, you need to configure your app to use these services.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.
  • Verify that you have opened the code for your app in AppBuilder.

Procedure

In-Browser

  1. Enable the services that you want to use for your app from the left-hand menu for your app.
    1. To enable Data, in the left-hand menu, click Data and click Enable Data.
    2. To enable Users, in the left-hand menu, click Users and click Enable Users.
    3. To enable Notifications, in the left-hand menu, click Notifications and click Enable Notifications.
    4. To enable Business Logic, in the left-hand menu, click Business Logic and click Enable Business Logic.
    5. Click Code.
  2. Add and initialize the JavaScript SDK.
    For more information about how to add and initialize the JavaScript SDK, see Getting Started with the Backend Services JavaScript SDK.
  3. Save all changes.
  4. Replace appIdString with the actual app ID value for the app.
    1. In the left-hand menu, click Settings and copy the value for App ID.
    2. Click Code.
    3. Use the app ID you just obtained to replace your-app-id in the initialization code.
  5. Save all changes.

Universal

  1. Enable the services that you want to use for your app.
    1. In your browser, open the Telerik Platform and log in.
    2. Open your app.
    3. To enable Data, in the left-hand menu, click Data and click Enable Data.
    4. To enable Users, in the left-hand menu, click Users and click Enable Users.
    5. To enable Notifications, in the left-hand menu, click Notifications and click Enable Notifications.
    6. To enable Business Logic, in the left-hand menu, click Business Logic and click Enable Business Logic.
    7. Click Code.
  2. Obtain the app ID for your app.
    1. In your browser, in the left-hand menu for your app, click Settings.
    2. Copy and store the value for App ID.
    3. Close your browser and return to the universal desktop client.
  3. Add and initialize the JavaScript SDK.
    For more information about how to add and initialize the JavaScript SDK, see Getting Started with the Backend Services JavaScript SDK.
  4. Use the app ID you obtained in Step 2.2 to replace your-app-id in the initialization code.
  5. Save all changes.

Windows

  1. Enable the services that you want to use for your app in the Telerik Platform.
    1. In your browser, open the Telerik Platform and log in.
    2. Open your app.
    3. To enable Data, in the left-hand menu, click Data and click Enable Data.
    4. To enable Users, in the left-hand menu, click Users and click Enable Users.
    5. To enable Notifications, in the left-hand menu, click Notifications and click Enable Notifications.
    6. To enable Business Logic, in the left-hand menu, click Business Logic and click Enable Business Logic.
  2. Obtain the app ID for your app.
    1. In your browser, in the left-hand menu for your app, click Settings.
    2. Copy and store the value for App ID.
    3. Close your browser and return to the classic Windows desktop client.
  3. Add and initialize the JavaScript SDK.
    For more information about how to add and initialize the JavaScript SDK, see Getting Started with the Backend Services JavaScript SDK.
  4. Use the app ID you obtained in Step 2.2 to replace your-app-id in the initialization code.
  5. Save all changes.

Visual Studio

  1. Enable the services that you want to use for your app in the Telerik Platform.
    1. In your browser, open the Telerik Platform and log in.
    2. Open your app.
    3. To enable Data, in the left-hand menu, click Data and click Enable Data.
    4. To enable Users, in the left-hand menu, click Users and click Enable Users.
    5. To enable Notifications, in the left-hand menu, click Notifications and click Enable Notifications.
    6. To enable Business Logic, in the left-hand menu, click Business Logic and click Enable Business Logic.
  2. Obtain the app ID for your app.
    1. In your browser, in the left-hand menu for your app, click Settings.
    2. Copy and store the value for App ID.
    3. Close your browser and return to the extension for Visual Studio.
  3. Add and initialize the JavaScript SDK.

  4. Use the app ID you obtained in Step 2.2 to replace your-app-id in the initialization code.
  5. Save all changes.

CLI

  1. Enable the services that you want to use for your app in the Telerik Platform.
    1. In your browser, open the Telerik Platform and log in.
    2. Open your app.
    3. To enable Data, in the left-hand menu, click Data and click Enable Data.
    4. To enable Users, in the left-hand menu, click Users and click Enable Users.
    5. To enable Notifications, in the left-hand menu, click Notifications and click Enable Notifications.
    6. To enable Business Logic, in the left-hand menu, click Business Logic and click Enable Business Logic.
  2. Obtain the app ID for your app.
    1. In your browser, in the left-hand menu for your app, click Settings.
    2. Copy and store the value for App ID.
    3. Close your browser and return to the command-line interface.
  3. Add and initialize the JavaScript SDK.

  4. Use the app ID you obtained in Step 2.2 to replace your-app-id in the initialization code.
  5. Save all changes.
