"Uploading a file"

To upload an image programmatically, use any of these approaches:

Obtain the File Download URL

Often you need the download URL of a file that you have uploaded. You can obtain it by taking these steps:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. Click Data > Files in the left-side navigation.
  4. Select the file entry in the file browser.
  5. In the right-hand pane, right-click the file name labeled File: and select to copy the URL.

"File link"

To get the URL of a file programmatically, get the file using the method below:

In the request, set the X-Everlive-Fields header value to {"Uri" : "1"} to only return the Uri field instead of the entire object.

Set the File Permissions

By default, all items in your Files content type have common permissions. You can also set per-item permissions which will automatically enable the Users service in your app.

When setting common permission, you can choose between Public, Read-only, Private, Shared, or Role-based. Take these steps to change the content type's common permissions:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. Navigate to Data > Permissions.
  4. Click the drop-down box next to Files and elect a permission entry.
  5. If you selected Role-based, set granular permissions in the Roles table that appears.
  6. Click Save.

Regardless of what common permissions you set for the content type, you can set Role-based permissions to each file. Note that if the common permissions are already more permissive (e.g. Public), revoking some permissions from a Role does not have an actual effect. However, if you set a more restrictive common security (e.g. Read-only), you can give a particular role more permissions over a particular file (e.g. Update or Delete).

Take these steps to change the content type's common permissions:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. Click Data > Files in the left-side navigation.
  4. Select the file entry in the file browser.
  5. In the right-hand pane, click More > Permissions.
  6. Click Set item specific requirements...
  7. Add Roles and/or Users and set their permissions.
  8. Click Save.
