Managing Roles in the Portal

The Telerik Platform portal allow you to perform various roles management tasks such as creating, editing, and assigning users to roles using a Graphical User Interface (GUI). You need to enable the Users service before you can complete the instructions in this article.

Viewing the List of Current Roles

To view the list of roles, go to your app and select Users > Roles in the left-hand pane. The central pane contains a table view of the roles that you currently have in your application.

You can click a role to view its details.

Creating a Role

Take these steps to create a role:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. In the left-hand pane, select Users > Roles.
  4. Click the Add an Item button.
  5. Type a name for the role in the details pane.
  6. Click Save.

Editing a Role

Take these steps to edit a role:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. In the left-hand pane, select Users > Roles.
  4. Select the role that you want to edit.
  5. Make the changes in the details pane.
  6. Click Save.

Deleting a Role

Take these steps to delete a role:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. In the left-hand pane, select Users > Roles.
  4. Select the role that you want to delete and click the Delete button.
  5. Confirm the deletion.

You cannot delete the default role. To delete a role that is currently set as default, first set another role as default.
You cannot delete a role that has users assigned to it.

Setting a Default Role

Take these steps to set a default role:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. In the left-hand pane, select Users > Roles.
  4. Select the role that you want to mark as default.
  5. Click the Set as Default role button in the details pane.

Assigning a Role to a User Account

Take these steps to assign a role to a user account:

  1. Log in to the Telerik Platform portal.
  2. Click your app.
  3. In the left-hand pane, select Users > Users Browser.
  4. Select the user account that you want to edit.
  5. Click the Edit button in the Details pane.
  6. From the Role drop-down box, select the new role.
  7. Click Save.
