Re-sign and Distribute the AppManager Mobile App

The AppManager mobile app is one of the ways to distribute your apps to users. It serves as a hub app that the user installs on their device to browse and get your apps. Depending on the user devices and operating system, there are different prerequisites for distributing the AppManager mobile app to users. This article covers each of them.

Getting the AppManager Mobile App on Android Devices

The Android version of the AppManager mobile app is available for direct download from the Google Play store. Your users just need to download and install it on their devices.

Getting the AppManager Mobile App on iOS Devices

Due to the specifics of iOS app distribution, you need to sign the AppManager mobile app with your own provisioning profile and certificate before users can install it on their devices. To re-sign the app, follow these steps:

  1. Click Settings -> iOS in the side navigation under App Distribution.
  2. If you are re-signing the mobile app with a new provisioning profile and certificate from Apple, click Browse for files. If you have already uploaded the certificate and provisioning profile files, click Choose from secure storage.
  3. Select the provisioning profile and certificate and type in the certificate password, if prompted.
  4. Check Distribute by email if you want to send a download link to all registered users when AppManager successfully re-signs the app. You can also send this email later.
  5. Click Re-sign app.
  6. (Optional) Upload a push notification certificate if you want to have push notifications in the AppManager mobile app.

AppManager re-signs the app and shows a QR code and a link that you can use to download the app. If you have checked email distribution, AppManager sends an email with download information to all registered users of your account.

It is best to create a separate provisioning profile for the AppManager mobile app and use it for signing this app only.

Also, make sure that all target devices are listed in the provisioning profile before you re-sign the app. The only scenario where you do not need to list device ID's in the provisioning profile is if you have an In-house provisioning profile.

Re-send the App

To send your re-signed app to new users or re-send it to old ones, you can do the following:

  1. Go to the Users page.
  2. Select one or multiple users.
  3. Click Resend -> Resend AppManager app.

Getting the AppManager Mobile App on Windows Phone Devices

To distribute a Windows Phone app outside of the Windows Phone Store, you need to sign it with an enterprise code signing certificate. If you do not have one already, check the See Also section of this article for further instructions.

To sign the AppManager mobile app with your certificate:

  1. Click Settings -> Windows Phone under App Distribution.
  2. Upload the enterprise certificate file.
  3. Type in the certificate password.
  4. Check Distribute by email if you want to send a download link to all registered users when AppManager successfully re-signs the app. You can also send this email later.
  5. Click Re-sign Windows Phone app.

AppManager re-signs the app and shows a QR code and a link that you can use to download the app. If you have checked email distribution, AppManager sends an email with download information to all registered users of your account.

Code signing the AppManager Mobile App also automatically generates an Application Enrollment Token (AET) for it. All users need to install this token on their devices to enable installation of apps signed with your certificate. The AET will also be present on all Windows Phone apps details pages in the email and web catalog distributions.

Re-send the App

To send your re-signed app to new users or re-send it to old ones, you can do the following:

  1. Go to the Users page.
  2. Select one or many users.
  3. Click Resend and then select Resend AppManager app.
