Major Features and Updates

This release of AppBuilder introduces the following major feature across the AppBuilder clients.

  • You can now migrate to the new unified app development experience. Users of the command-line interface and the extension for Visual Studio cannot migrate to the new app format. For more information about migrating your projects, see Migrating Apps to Telerik Platform 2.0.
  • You can now use the universal desktop client (Beta) to develop Apache Cordova or NativeScript cross-platform mobile apps.
  • You can now use the following templates to create projects with enabled Views service.
    • NativeScript Blank (JavaScript)
    • Apache Cordova Kendo UI Blank
    • Apache Cordova Kendo UI Drawer
    • Apache Cordova Kendo UI TabStrip
  • Improved Android builds for Apache Cordova 3.7.0 and Apache Cordova 3.8.0.
  • You can now run automated cloud builds from Jenkins as a part of your continuous integration process.

Breaking Changes

Warning Because of the updates to the Android build system, you might not be able to build your project for Android if it targets Apache Cordova 3.7.0 or later and uses an older version of the following plugins: Telerik AppFeedback, Push Plugin, Local Notification, Bluetooth Low Energy, Barcode Scanner, Facebook. For more information about this issue, see Breaking change introduces build failure for Android.

Warning Support for mobile websites is now removed. For more information, see What’s Next for Telerik Platform and Mobile Website Projects.

Announcements

Starting with the next major release of AppBuilder, NativeScript 1.4.3 and earlier will be deprecated. You will still be able to open such projects, continue development and build them but you will not be able to migrate existing projects to NativeScript 1.4.3 and earlier. Support for the deprecated versions will be removed in a future release.

Features and Updates in the In-Browser Client

This release of AppBuilder introduces the following features and improvements in the in-browser client.

  • Develop with TypeScript 1.5 (Beta).
  • Quickly identify outdated verified plugins in the Project Properties.
  • In the device simulator, you can now test your apps on iOS 9.0 and 9.1.
  • In the device simulator, you can now test your apps on Android 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0.

Features and Updates in the Windows Client

This release of AppBuilder introduces the following improvement in the classic Windows desktop client.

  • Quickly identify outdated verified plugins in the Project Properties.
  • Improved behavior when the classic Windows desktop client and the extension for Visual Studio are installed on the same system. You can now safely run the classic Windows desktop client and the extension for Visual Studio simultaneously, including their respective device simulators.
    • The classic Windows desktop client cache is now stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Telerik\BlackDragon\Cache\ice.
    • The extension for Visual Studio cache is now stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Telerik\BlackDragon\Cache\vse.
    • The cache for the device simulator is now stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Telerik\BlackDragon\Cache\sim.
  • Obtain the UUID of your Apple Watch device.

Features and Updates in the Extension for Visual Studio

This release of AppBuilder introduces the following features and improvements in the extension for Visual Studio.

  • View Telerik Platform notifications in Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 and later.
  • Quickly identify outdated verified plugins in the Project Properties.
  • Improved behavior when the classic Windows desktop client and the extension for Visual Studio are installed on the same system. You can now safely run the classic Windows desktop client and the extension for Visual Studio simultaneously, including their respective device simulators.
    • The classic Windows desktop client cache is now stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Telerik\BlackDragon\Cache\ice.
    • The extension for Visual Studio cache is now stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Telerik\BlackDragon\Cache\vse.
    • The cache for the device simulator is now stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Telerik\BlackDragon\Cache\sim.
  • Obtain the UUID of your Apple Watch device.

Features and Updates in the Command-Line Interface and the Package for Sublime Text

This release of AppBuilder introduces the following improvement in the command-line interface and package for Sublime Text.

  • Run the command-line interface on systems with Node.js 5.1.x and later 5.x installed.

This release of AppBuilder introduces the following notable resolved issues.

Mobile Devices and Platforms
  • If your project contains the InAppPurchase plugin from the Telerik Verified Plugins Marketplace and targets Apache Cordova 3.7.0 or earlier, you cannot build your project for iOS.
  • If your project uses WKWebView for iOS, you cannot debug your app on device.
  • If you have not accepted the updated license agreement in iTunes Connect, you cannot publish your iOS apps to the App Store. AppBuilder shows a login error.
In-Browser Client
  • When you delete a folder, the in-browser client does not close the open files from the folder.
