Select the Progress AppBuilder client you are currently using for development.

IDE

This article is applicable to the in-browser client, the universal desktop client and the classic Windows desktop client. For information about version control in the extension for Visual Studio, see Use version control in Visual Studio.

Before committing or reverting your changes, you can inspect them against the latest commit. You can also inspect changes between selected versions of a file. You can inspect only changes in the code.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.
  • Verify that you have opened the code for your app.
  • Verify that you have pending changes.
    For uncommitted changes, version control icons appear in the Project Navigator. For more information, see Identify Pending Changes.

Procedure

In-Browser

Inspect Changes Against the Latest Commit

  1. In the Project Navigator, right-click the modified file.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select Version ControlCompare with Latest Version.
  3. In the Diff Tool window, inspect the modified lines of code.
  4. (Optional) Modify the solution version.
    1. Click in the Workspace Version panel and start typing your changes.
    2. To save your changes, click Save.
      Any unsaved changes made in the code editor, will be discarded.
    3. To discard the changes, click Reset.
  5. (Optional) Click Resize to enter or exit full screen mode.

Inspect Changes Between Two Selected Commits

When you inspect changes between two selected commits, you cannot make changes to the code and you cannot revert selected changes from the diff tool.

  1. In the top menu bar, click Version ControlHistory.
  2. Click on a commit in the list to review it.
  3. In the Changed Files panel, select a file and click File History.
  4. In the History dialog for the file, select a commit from the list.
  5. Press Ctrl and click another commit.
  6. Click Next.

Universal

Inspect Changes Against the Latest Commit

  1. In the Project Navigator, right-click the modified file.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select Version ControlCompare with Latest Version.
  3. In the Diff Tool window, inspect the modified lines of code.
  4. (Optional) Modify the solution version.

  5. Click Next or Previous to navigate between changes.

Inspect Changes Between Two Selected Commits

When you inspect changes between two selected commits, you cannot make changes to the code and you cannot revert selected changes from the diff tool.

  1. In the top menu bar, click Version ControlHistory.
  2. Click on a commit in the list to review it.
  3. In the Changed Files panel, select a file and click History.
  4. In the History dialog for the file, select a commit from the list.
  5. Press Ctrl and click another commit.
  6. Click Diff Tool.
  7. (Optional) Click Next or Previous to navigate between changes.

Visual Studio

CLI

This operation is applicable to the classic Windows desktop client and the in-browser client. With the command-line interface, you can use your preferred version control provider and tools.
