Replace in Document

Select the Progress AppBuilder client you are currently using for development.

IDE

You can search and replace content in the currently open document.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.
  • Verify that you have opened the code for your app in AppBuilder.

Procedure

In-Browser

  1. From the Project Navigator, open the file that you want to edit.
  2. Press Ctrl+H (on Windows systems) or Cmd+H (on macOS systems).
  3. Configure your search options.

    Option Description
    Aa Specifies that the search criteria should respect the character casing.
    Match whole words Specifies that the search criteria should only match whole words.
    .* Specifies that the search criteria is a regular expression.
  4. Enter the text that you want to find and the text that you want to replace it with.
  5. (Optional) To navigate between search results, click Previous match or Next match.
  6. (Optional) To search within selected text, click Find in selection.
  7. To replace the currently selected search result, click Replace.
  8. (Optional) To replace all search results, click Replace All.
  9. (Optional) Close the Find and Replace dialog.

Universal

  1. From the Project Navigator, open the file that you want to edit.
  2. Press Ctrl+H (on Windows systems) or Cmd+H (on macOS systems).
  3. Configure your search options.

    Option Description
    Aa Specifies that the search criteria should respect the character casing.
    .* Specifies that the search criteria is a regular expression.
  4. Enter the text that you want to find and the text that you want to replace it with.
  5. (Optional) To navigate between search results, click Previous match or Next match.
  6. (Optional) To search within selected text, click Find in selection.
  7. To replace the currently selected search result, click Replace.
  8. (Optional) To replace all search results, click Replace All.
  9. (Optional) Close the Find and Replace dialog.

Windows

  1. From the Project Navigator, open the file that you want to edit.
  2. Press Ctrl+H.
    In the classic Windows desktop client, the Find dialog launches in pinned mode. You can run searches with separate search criteria for each open file.
  3. To configure your search options, click the cogwheel icon.

    Option Description
    Match case Specifies that the search criteria should respect the character casing.
    Match whole word Specifies that the search criteria should match only entire words.
    Use regular expressions Specifies that the search criteria is a regular expression.
  4. Enter the text that you want to find and the text that you want to replace it with.
    The classic Windows desktop client highlights the search results in the file as you type.
  5. (Optional) To navigate between search results, click or .
  6. To replace the currently selected search result, click Replace.
  7. (Optional) To replace all search results, click All.
  8. (Optional) Close the Find dialog.

Visual Studio

In the extension for Visual Studio, you can find and replace text with the default Find and Replace operations available in Microsoft Visual Studio. For more information, see Finding and Replacing Text.

CLI

To perform this operation, apply the approach or tool available for your current IDE.
