AppBuilder provides several companion apps which you can install on your mobile device. They simplify and speed up the testing of the mobile apps you are currently developing.

Platform Companion App

The Platform companion app is a management utility for the framework-specific developer apps: the Cordova developer app and the NativeScript developer app. After you install it on your device, you can perform the following tasks:

  • You can log into your account and review your current apps in progress.
  • You can load any of your apps in its respective framework-specific developer app from the menu of available apps.
  • You can load any app in its respective framework-specific developer app by scanning a valid QR code.
  • You can view the logs for each of the apps you have run in }a respective framework-specific developer app.
  • You can test your apps in a release or a debug build configuration.
  • You can configure various settings for the framework-specific developer apps.
  • You can check the framework versions of the currently installed framework-specific developer app.
  • You can check the plugins and modules that you can test in the currently installed framework-specific developer app.

The Platform companion app is available for iOS and Android.

Cordova Developer App

For iOS and Android, you need to use the Platform companion app to load your hybrid apps in the Cordova developer app via QR code.

The Cordova developer app is a testing utility for Apache Cordova-based mobile apps. The Cordova developer app acts as a container app. When you deploy your app on the device, the AppBuilder Compiler Service pushes it down to device and runs it inside the Cordova developer app container. The Cordova developer app does not interfere with your app look and feel.

The Cordova developer app is available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

  • When you develop for iOS, you can run your app on iOS devices without building and signing it with a provisioning profile and cryptographic identity.
  • When you develop for Android, you can run your app on Android devices without building an application package and installing it on the device.
  • When you develop for Windows Phone, you can run your app on Windows Phone devices without building an application package and installing it on the device.

NativeScript Developer App

You need to use the Platform companion app to load your native apps in the NativeScript developer app.

The NativeScript developer app is a testing utility for NativeScript-based mobile apps. The NativeScript developer app acts as a container app. When you deploy your app on the device, the AppBuilder Compiler Service pushes it down to device and runs it inside the NativeScript developer app container. The NativeScript developer app does not interfere with your app look and feel.

The NativeScript developer app is available for iOS and Android.

  • When you develop for iOS, you can run your app on iOS devices without building and signing it with a provisioning profile and cryptographic identity.
  • When you develop for Android, you can run your app on Android devices without building an application package and installing it on the device.
