Update the Frameworks in Your App

You can replace the code libraries in your existing apps to take advantage of any updates to the frameworks that you use for development.

You can quickly update Bower packages and their dependencies via your own bower.json files. This operation is available only in the in-browser client and the classic Windows desktop client.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.
  • Verify that you have opened the code for your app in AppBuilder.
  • If you want to update Kendo UI Core or Kendo UI Professional, verify that the kendo folder and its contents are not read-only.

Procedure

In-Browser

Update Kendo UI Core or Kendo UI Professional

  1. In the Project Navigator, right-click the second node from the top and select Manage Packages.
  2. In the Kendo UI tab, review the list of available framework versions.
  3. Select the framework version that you want to use in your app and click Install.
    The Verified tag marks stable Kendo UI Service Pack releases.
  4. Confirm and wait for AppBuilder to complete the update process.
    During the update, AppBuilder deletes the kendo folder and its contents and recreates them. After the update completes, AppBuilder places a check mark next to the package that is currently used in your app.
  5. Close the wizard.
  6. If needed, update references to the code libraries in your app.

Update Bower Packages with the Manage Packages Wizard

  1. Remove the files and references for the outdated package from your app.
  2. In the Project Navigator, right-click the second node from the top and select Manage Packages.
  3. In the Bower tab, in the Search text box, start typing the name of the package that you want to update.
  4. Select the package that you want to use in your app and click Install.
  5. Confirm and wait for AppBuilder to complete the update process.
  6. Close the wizard.
  7. Update references to the code libraries in your app.

Update Bower Packages via bower.json

  1. Add or update bower.json in the root of your app.
    Verify that your bower.json file complies with the Bower specification and that you place it in the root of the app.
  2. In the Project Navigator, right-click bower.json and select Install dependencies.
  3. Wait for the operation to complete.
    AppBuilder updates the Bower packages in the bower_components folder in the root of your app.
  4. Reference the code libraries in your app.

Update Other Third-Party Frameworks

  1. Download the code libraries for the framework version that you want to use.
  2. If the code libraries are archived, unpack the archive on your local file system.
  3. In the Project Navigator, right-click the folder that contains the code libraries and select AddExisting Files.
  4. Drag and drop the files that you want to replace from your file explorer to the drop files here to upload text box.
  5. Click Upload.
  6. Confirm that you want to replace the existing files.
  7. If needed, update references to the code libraries in your app.

Universal

Update Kendo UI Core or Kendo UI Professional

  1. In the Project Navigator, right-click the second node from the top and select Manage Packages.
  2. In the Kendo UI tab, review the list of available framework versions.
  3. Select the framework version that you want to use in your app and click Install.

Update Other Third-Party Frameworks

  1. Download the code libraries for the framework version that you want to use.
  2. If the code libraries are archived, unpack the archive on your local file system.
  3. Drag and drop the files that you want to replace from the folder that Microsoft Visual Studio opened in your file explorer to the folder that contains the code libraries in the Solution Explorer.
  4. Confirm that you want to replace the existing files.
  5. If needed, update references to the code libraries in your app.

CLI

Update Kendo UI Core or Kendo UI Professional

  1. In the command prompt, navigate to the directory that contains your app.
  2. Run the following command.

    appbuilder kendoui install
    

    The command-line interface lists the available Kendo UI Core and Kendo UI Professional framework packages.
    The Verified tag marks stable Kendo UI Service Pack releases.

    TIP: Set the --latest and the --verified flags to list the latest stable Kendo UI Service Pack releases.

  3. Enter the index of the package that you want to use and press Enter.
  4. Press y to confirm and press Enter.
  5. If needed, update references to the code libraries in your app.

Update Bower Packages

  1. In the command prompt, run the following command to install Bower, if not installed.

    npm install -g bower
    
  2. In the command prompt, navigate to the directory that contains your app.
  3. Run the following command.

    bower update "The name of the Bower package"
    
  4. If needed, update references to the code libraries in your app.

Update Other Third-Party Frameworks

  1. Download the code libraries for the framework version that you want to use.
  2. If the code libraries are archived, unpack the archive on your local file system.
  3. On your local file system, manually replace your existing code libraries with the ones that you want to use.
  4. Confirm that you want to replace the existing files.
  5. If needed, update references to the code libraries in your app.
