Build and Distribute Your Android App to Selected Users

Select the AppBuilder client you are currently using for development.

IDE

When your app is production-ready, you can build it for publishing and distribute it to selected end users.

When you build your app for publishing to an application store, the build configuration is always set to Release and LiveSync is disabled.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.
  • Verify that you have opened the code for your app in AppBuilder.
  • Verify that you have a Google Play self-signed code-signing identity that expires after October 22, 2033.

Procedure

In-Browser

  1. In the top menu bar, click Publish and select App Stores.
  2. Select Google Play.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select a cryptographic identity and click Next.
  5. After the build completes, click Download to store the application package on your local file system.
    If you have set a default download location for your browser, AppBuilder will not prompt you to specify name and download location. If you have not set a default download location for your browser, when prompted, browse to the location where you want to store the application package, provide a file name for the application package and click Save.
  6. Send out the application package to your users.

Windows

  1. In the top menu bar, click Publish and select App Stores.
  2. Select Google Play and click Next.
  3. Select a cryptographic identity and click Build.
  4. After the build completes, click Download to store the application package on your local file system.
    Browse to the location where you want to store the application package, provide a file name for the application package and click Save. Close the Publish dialog.
  5. Send out the application package to your users.

Visual Studio

  1. In the top menu bar, click AppBuilderPublish <app_name>App Stores.
  2. Select Google Play.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select the code-signing identity that you want to use for code-signing your app and click Build.
  5. After the build completes, click Go To to open the location where the application package is stored on your local file system.
  6. Send out the application package to your users.

CLI

  1. In the command prompt, navigate to the directory that contains your app.
  2. Run the following command.

    appbuilder build Android --release
    

    (Optional) To download the application package and distribute it to your users, run the following command.

    appbuilder build Android --release --download
    
  3. After the build completes, distribute the app by sending out the QR code or the APK file.
