IDE

When you need to recreate the code of an existing app, you can do it by importing it from archive.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that you have exported the app that you want to use. For more information about how to export apps, see Export Your App.
  • Verify that the app that you want to use is developed with AppBuilder.
  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.

Procedure

In-Browser

  1. Prepare the exported app for importing.
    1. Unpack the zipped archive locally.
    2. Open the unpacked archive.
    3. Navigate to the directory which contains the .abproject file.
    4. Zip the contents of the directory.
  2. Create a new empty app in which to import the archive.
    1. Click Create app.
    2. Click Advanced.
    3. Select Samples and templates.
    4. Select Hybrid.
    5. Choose between JavaScript and TypeScript, based on the language used for the app that you want to import.
    6. Select the Blank template.
    7. Provide a name for the new app.
    8. (Optional) Provide a description for the new app.
    9. Click Create App and wait for the Telerik Platform to open the Views for the app.
    10. Click Code.
    11. From the Project Navigator, delete all files and folders except cordova.js, Plugins, Properties and App_Resources.
  3. Import the archive.
    1. In the Project Navigator, right-click the second node from the top.
    2. Select AddFrom Archive.
    3. In the file browser of your system, browse and locate the archive that you want to import in AppBuilder.
    4. Drag the selection and drop it in the drop files here to upload text box.
    5. Click Upload.
    6. Confirm that you want to continue.

Universal

  1. Prepare the exported app for importing.
    1. Unpack the zipped archive locally.
    2. Open the unpacked archive.
    3. Navigate to the directory which contains the .abproject file.
    4. Zip the contents of the directory.
  2. Create a new empty app in which to import the archive.
    1. Click Create App.
    2. Click Advanced.
    3. Select Samples and templates.
    4. Select Hybrid.
    5. Choose between JavaScript and TypeScript, based on the language used for the app that you want to import.
    6. Select the Blank template.
    7. Provide a name for the new app.
    8. (Optional) Provide a description for the new app.
    9. Click Create App and wait for AppBuilder to open the app.
    10. From the Project Navigator, delete all files and folders except cordova.js, Plugins, Properties and App_Resources.
  3. Import the archive.
    1. In the Project Navigator, right-click the second node from the top.
    2. Select AddFrom Archive.
    3. In the file browser of your system, browse and locate the archive that you want to import in AppBuilder.
    4. Drag the selection and drop it in the drop files here to upload text box.
    5. Click Upload.
    6. Confirm that you want to continue.

Windows

  1. Prepare the exported app for importing.
    1. Unpack the zipped archive locally.
    2. Open the unpacked archive.
    3. Navigate to the directory which contains the .abproject file.
    4. Zip the contents of the directory.
  2. Create a new empty app in which to import the archive.
    1. From the Dashboard, click New and select Hybrid.
    2. Select the Blank (JavaScript) or Blank (TypeScript) templates, based on the language used for the app that you want to import.
    3. Enter a name for your app and click Create.
    4. In the Project Navigator, select all files and folders except cordova.js, Plugins, Properties and App_Resources, right-click, select Delete and confirm.
  3. Import the archive.
    1. In the Project Navigator, right-click the second node from the top.
    2. Select AddFrom Archive.
    3. Browse and locate the archive that you want to import in AppBuilder, select it and click Open.
    4. Confirm that you want to continue.

Visual Studio

  1. Unpack the zipped archive locally.
  2. In the top menu bar, click FileOpenProject/Solution.
  3. Navigate to the location where your app is stored.
  4. Locate the .abproject file for your app and double-click it.
  5. If prompted, log in.

CLI

  1. Unpack the zipped archive locally.
  2. In the command prompt, navigate to the directory that contains the .abproject file for your app.
