When you begin development of a new hybrid app, you can start from any of the available templates. All templates target 6.4.0.

Templates for Hybrid Development

Option Description
Blank (JavaScript) This template shows you how to attach the deviceready event and its event handlers. Firing this event is required before you can make any calls to the Apache Cordova device APIs.
Blank (TypeScript) This template shows you how to attach the deviceready event and its event handlers. Firing this event is required before you can make any calls to the Apache Cordova device APIs.
Kendo UI Blank This is a blank template that provides the latest supported version of Kendo UI Core and the references for development with the framework. This template is enabled for the Views service.
Kendo UI Drawer This template shows you how to add a Kendo UI Drawer widget to your app and use it to implement the navigation between the views of the app. The Drawer is a hidden menu that slides to reveal when called. This template is enabled for the Views service.
Kendo UI TabStrip This template shows you how to add a Kendo UI TabStrip widget to your app and use it to implement the navigation between the views of the app. The TabStrip is a footer that contains navigation buttons and spans across the application. The template also provides the Kendo UI TypeScript declaration files. This template is enabled for the Views service.
Progress Data Service A sample app developed with the latest supported version of Progress OpenEdge JSDO. This template shows you how to use the JSDO Dialect of the Kendo UI DataSource to work with an OpenEdge or Rollbase remote data service. For more information about working with the template, review the README.txt in the root of your app and visit Creating Mobile Apps Using JSDOs.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your preferred AppBuilder client is running and you are logged in.

Procedure

In-Browser

Quick Create

  1. Click Create app.
  2. Select Cordova Hybrid.
    This operation creates a new app using the Kendo UI Blank.
  3. Provide a name for the new app.
  4. (Optional) Provide a description for the new app.
  5. Click Create App.

A new app is added in your Telerik Platform account and all files are checked into the integrated AppBuilder version control. Telerik Platform opens the Views for your new app and lists all app files in the Project Navigator.

Advanced Create

  1. Click Create app.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Select Samples and templates.
  4. Select Hybrid.
  5. Choose between JavaScript and TypeScript.
  6. (Optional) In the Search text box, start typing search criteria for the template that you want to use.
  7. Select the template that you want to use.
  8. Provide a name for the new app.
  9. (Optional) Provide a description for the new app.
  10. Click Create App.

A new app is added in your Telerik Platform account and all files are checked into the integrated AppBuilder version control. If the selected template is compatible with the Screen Builder service, Telerik Platform opens the Views for your new app. Otherwise, the Telerik Platform opens the code for your app and lists all app files in the Project Navigator.

Universal

Quick Create

  1. Click Create App.
  2. Select Cordova Hybrid.
    This operation creates a new app using the Kendo UI Blank.
  3. Provide a name for the new app.
  4. (Optional) Provide a description for the new app.
  5. Click Create App.

A new app is added in your Telerik Platform account and all files are checked into the integrated AppBuilder version control. AppBuilder opens your new app and lists all app files in the Project Navigator.

Advanced Create

  1. Click Create App.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Select Samples and templates.
  4. Select Hybrid.
  5. Choose between JavaScript and TypeScript.
  6. (Optional) In the Search text box, start typing search criteria for the template that you want to use.
  7. Select the template that you want to use.
  8. Provide a name for the new app.
  9. (Optional) Provide a description for the new app.
  10. Click Create App.

A new app is added in your Telerik Platform account and all files are checked into the integrated AppBuilder version control. AppBuilder opens your new app and lists all app files in the Project Navigator.

Windows

  1. From the Dashboard, click New and select Hybrid.
  2. Select a template.
  3. Enter a name for your app and click Create.

A new app is added in your Telerik Platform account and all files are checked into the integrated AppBuilder version control. AppBuilder opens your new app and lists all app files in the Project Navigator.

Visual Studio

  1. In the top menu bar, click FileNewProject.
  2. In the sidebar of the New Project window, select TelerikPlatformCordova.
  3. Select a template from the list.
  4. (Optional) In the Name text box, type a name for your app.
  5. (Optional) Click Browse to set a new storage location for your app.
  6. (Optional) Configure source control and solution settings.
  7. Click OK.

Microsoft Visual Studio creates your app and stores all of its files on your disk. Microsoft Visual Studio opens your new app and lists all app files in the Solution Explorer pane.

CLI

  1. In the command prompt, navigate to the location where you want to create your app.
  2. Run the following command.

    appbuilder create hybrid <App Name> --template <Template Name>
    

    <Template Name> is one of the following: JavaScript.Blank, TypeScript.Blank, KendoUI.Blank, KendoUI.Drawer, KendoUI.TabStrip, JSDO.

The command-line interface creates a new folder in the current directory. The folder contains the files for your app. To work with the app with the command-line interface, in the command prompt navigate to the newly created folder.
