Android CPU Architectures

Building for different Android CPU architectures lets you distribute application packages for various Android devices. In AppBuilder, you can choose between armV7, x86, or both CPU architectures to include in the APK.

Applying Android CPU Architectures

You can apply different Android architectures only in the extension for Visual Studio.

You can select the desired CPU architectures right before building the Android application package with one of the following procedures: running apps on devices, running apps on native emulators, or distributing apps to users.

The available Android CPU architectures are:

Option Description Additional Comments
armV7 Supported Instruction Sets:
  • armeabi
  • Thumb-2
  • VFPv3-D16
  • Other, optional
This architecture is used by most of the devices and ARM native emulators. ARM emulators are significantly slower than x86 emulators.
x86 Supported Instruction Sets:
  • x86 (IA-32)
  • MMX
  • SSE/2/3
  • SSSE3
This architecture is used by most of the native emulators, all GenyMotion emulators and some devices.
Both This option produces a combination of APK files built against the armV7 and x86 CPU architectures.
